Click Bombed on You Tube

Eerie Assault On Basic Human Rights

When you are accused of a crime here in the United States you have certain rights. The framers of our Government had in mind that God gives people rights. One of those rights is to a fair trial. I recently had dealings with Google closing my Adsense account. The most eerie thing about it is I was found guilty and punished without seeing any evidence or even seeing my accuser. The e-mails I got didn't even state anything specific that I could defend myself against. Judged guilty and try to prove my innocence not even knowing what I am accused of. I wasn't given any warning and there was no way to change the outcome. That is weird.
Unfortunately for my viewers Google and/or You Tube left the ads on much of the videos to further exploit me by continuing the revenue stream. I am in the entertainment business so therefore I removed a lions share of the videos at You Tube. I had well over 1000 videos there and now I have 6.
I wanted to also thank Chris Pirillo. His advice is what led me to this point. You see he recommended using Google Hangouts to promote my videos and he said if I used Hangouts this way Google would enable me to stream to my You Tube account. Well someone stopped in a Hangout I created and began running a porn video. I flagged the guy and he obviously came back and click-bombed my You Tube channel.
That is just great isn't it?

I Cannot Believe My Ears

You tell the mechanic at the shop the noise I'm hearing is on the right side of the car. He tells you we'll have a look at it. Then you're stumped. Why won't he agree with you? Because, it is what it is.
Here are some things you need to understand about cars. Inside the car sounds bounce around on the glass. The angle it's coming from could be off as much as 180 degrees. Listen and look for sounds either outside the car or with the windows rolled down.
If you hear a strange persistent noise don't ignore it. Look for what is causing it yourself or have a mechanic look for it. It may cost you some time and money but it is better to be safe than sorry.
Here is an example of that. Before the winter set in I changed the brake pads on our car. I thought what I determined was a "rubbing" sound inside the car was because I didn't turn the rotors. Boy was I off base. I figured the sound would go away when they got worn in a little. It sounded like it was on the driver's side. I kept looking close at the driver's side. Everything seemed OK. Apparently I fitted the wheel on the passenger side incorrectly. It fell off finally.
A parking lot attendant was driving it at the time. It scared the hell out of the kid. He ran as fast as he could. I'm glad he didn't get hurt. I warned him to take it easy though. I am also glad that wheel didn't come off at high speed on the expressway. It would have ended in tragedy. It is possible that by not rotating the tires at regular intervals the studs became fractured when I removed the wheels. It is difficult to determine a root cause. Whether it was that or fitting the heavy aluminum rim properly I won't ever know.
One way or another I had to fix my car yesterday and I got a pretty decent video of the repair job. Which I felt all of us geeks could benefit from. Especially those gear heads (who cannot get enough car info). Here is a link Rich M Doing Things Carfix

Sore Losers Tear Everyone Down

When I was a small boy I was not really very good at baseball. I tried out for the West Pullman Little League but it was a complete fail. My Dad always taught me to be a good sport though. We often played for hours on the lot next to the tracks. No clean uniforms or mowed grass and NO adults. So when we tried out it was no surprise as we had our own game. We still learned about sportmanship. It's not whether you win or lose but how you played the game. So when I think about baseball I think about that. We played with broken bats and sometimes sticks and no gloves. In fact I really didn't own a glove until my Dad wanted us to try out for the team.
Recently I auditioned for the job of announcer at Wrigley Field the home of the Chicago Cubs. Now, I just wonder how many of the 2900 other people who auditioned feel about what came next. I got an e-mail this week that promised me free tickets to one of three games next week. I jumped on it. The interesting question though is how many people did that? How many people can say I had fun trying out and thanks for the chance to audition? It was my pleasure and I would love to go to the game as a follow up. I wonder.
I also wonder the percentage of people that became angry about not getting the job and I ask myself, did I just see 2900 sock puppet accounts go into effect at You Tube? I checked as this was going on to see if any of these people had videos up there besides the one for the audition. It is not a pretty picture.  They really didn't have a You Tube channel until they tried out for the job. I can see the possibility of there being trolls coming out of this as a result of those hard feelings. Look for yourself at my video and you'll see the other videos in the related column, here is a link Chicago Cubs Audition .
Recently an online acquaintance lost his Adsense privileges. That is not a pretty picture there because he is now attempting to make videos to get himself banned. I am wondering why he just doesn't walk in on cam naked and play with himself like SummerDaySweet did?
Then I saw videos at You Tube about a thing called "click bombing" which is basically sabotaging someones Adsense account by using a click bot to run up exorbitant clicks against it. It really has happened to some of the You Tubers in my age group more than others. It could happen to anyone just like all the troll comments we You Tubers get. I suspect they may be related. Trolls think they are funny. So does mainstream media or old media as I call it. We as members of the new media we have a responsibility to police ourselves, even if it costs us a few ticks down in the ratings. Of course as I post this I just got my 700th subscriber, Xeroxxed.  Ironic isn't it?
To date I have 226 blocked users though. How many do you have?

You Tube Ads Exploit Disasters

Recently there were some very serious floods in Queensland Australia. A fellow named Pete Finn runs a channel there called TheFatAussieBarstard. He made a few videos about it and turned off the ads. He also made a video discussing how he was disgusted and felt people were exploiting the tragedy by collecting money from those ads. I tend to agree.
Here in the US we have a lot of charitable organizations and a lot of them are so top heavy very little money actually goes towards the cause. Big You Tube partners should either turn off the ads or put a disclaimer in the video stating at least a portion of the revenues from the ads are being donated or given to the people in the video. That would make some sense.
I am seeing several You Tube celebs jumping on this World Water Day. Hopping a plane and flying off to Haiti to show you the poor people there. But it just occurred to me they video recorded these people without their understanding what is happening to their images. Are they being exploited so someone can sell ads on You Tube channel pages? Are there release forms signed or aren't these people entitled to the same basic legal rights afforded most Americans? I knew if I appeared in a Lisa Nova video I'd like to be compensated somehow. Not just lip service as it would appear is going on here. Think about it we are not seeing any of their AdSense accounts so how would we know.
Here watch this video at You Tube Kenya #MusicForRain See, no ads. You can do that too. Turn off the ads it is supposed to be non-profit. Perhaps You Tube can come up with a category label "Non-Profit" that automatically turns off the ads for you.
Please don't get me wrong I like to feel like I'm doing some good by watching these warm fuzzy videos of celebs crusading around the globe but it seems like that is where it ends for them and when the cameras are shut off they have little or no interest in it. I imagine them saying, " You got your footage? Good, get me the hell out of this God forsaken place NOW."  and ,"Where is my check?" I sincerely hope this isn't true.
